About us
A Message from the PrincipalWelcome to the Kingscliff Public School web site. At Kingscliff P.S. the education of students is seen as a partnership between parents, staff and students. I trust your time at Kingscliff Public School will be a satisfying and rewarding one. I hope you will find time to avail yourself of the many opportunities to become involved in school life. Children benefit greatly when parents become active participants in the School Community. Parents are encouraged to be involved at all levels of schooling and are welcome to come into the school to help the classroom teacher, listen to children read or help with other activities and the work of the Parents and Citizens Association. These contributions are greatly valued.
Kingscliff Public School has a proud history of providing quality education. We offer -
History of the schoolKingscliff Public School opened its doors in 1957. The numbers of children attending Cudgen Public School, 3 km away, were overcrowding its small site. Classes were being held in the local hall. A school of eight classrooms was built to cater for the children of the growing seaside village of Kingscliff. The school was officially opened on the 17th October 1958 by S.T. (Stepper) Stevens M. L. A. Member for Byron.
The founding principal was Hubert (Bert) Payne who remained for eight years. In 1965 Mr Jack Hillard was appointed. Jack being a returned serviceman introduced the District Schools ANZAC Service. When Jack retired in 1978, Mr Ian Harris from Gundagai Public School was appointed as principal. In 1987, Mr Keith Shackley, from Kendall Public School was appointed as principal and retired in 2004. Mr Kiernan Houlahan, formerly from Moree East Public School is the current principal. P & CIn all schools the P & C always plays a vital role in the education of its students. Our P & C works in close co-operation with the principal and teachers and assist in providing the wonderful amenities that are on offer at the school.
Throughout the year the P& C conducts a number of fundraising events, which in turn provides new amenities or assists in allowing students to participate in the many programs that operate in the school. P& C meetings are held on the third Monday of every month during the term and are held at 7.30pm in the staff room. Dates and agenda items are advertised in the school newsletter.
